Populist verdicts

A casual analysis shows increasing frequency of verdicts which are either populist or along the lines of interests of mainstream communities from Kerala courts. A closer look says that trend as such is a disturbing development. It is pointing to the fact that the court verdicts are increasingly getting affected by the media trial. Though judiciary were aware of it and had tried to resist the influence earlier, now things have changed, as we had seen in a recent case the judge was welcoming the media intervention. It limits the opportunity of the accused to plead innocence which is against the spirit of justice.
